Cookie Policy
What cookies and similar technologies cannedfood.com uses, and how you control them — in accordance with the ePrivacy Directive and Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR). Last updated: August 2026.
1. What cookies are
Cookies and similar technologies (such as browser local storage) are small pieces of information stored on your device by a website. They can be strictly necessary for the site to function, or used for preferences, statistics and marketing. This website is intentionally built to be minimal: we use no analytics, no advertising trackers and no marketing cookies.
2. What we actually use
- Strictly necessary storage — one entry in your browser's local storage (
cf_consent) that remembers your choice in the consent banner, so the banner is shown only once. It contains no personal data, is not transmitted to any server, and persists until you clear your browser data. As strictly necessary storage, it does not require consent under the ePrivacy rules. - YouTube (third party, on click only) — the Discovery Channel video on our homepage is embedded in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) and loads only if you click it. Only then may Google/YouTube set its own cookies, under Google's privacy policy. If you do not click the video, no YouTube cookies are set.
- Google Fonts — the site's typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts servers; your IP address is technically disclosed to Google when the fonts are fetched. This service sets no cookies.
3. The consent banner
On your first visit, a banner lets you choose between "Accept all" and "Essential only". Because this website currently sets no optional cookies, the two choices lead to the same behaviour today — the banner exists so that, if optional services (such as analytics) are ever added, they will load only for visitors who chose "Accept all". Your choice is stored locally in your browser and the banner will not reappear on other pages.
4. How to change or withdraw your choice
To make the banner appear again and choose differently, clear this site's data in your browser (usually under Settings → Privacy → Site data → cannedfood.com), or use a private/incognito window. You can also block or delete cookies entirely from your browser settings at any time.
